International Human Solidarity Day -20th December
- International Human Solidarity Day is observed globally on 20
December every year.
- On December 22, 2005, the UN General Assembly proclaimed that International Solidarity Day would take place on December 20 each year.
- It is a day to:
- Celebrate unity in diversity
- Remind governments to respect their commitments to international
- agreements
- Raise public awareness of the importance of solidarity
- Encourage debate on the ways to promote solidarity
- Encourage new initiatives for poverty eradication.
- Solidarity is identified in the Millennium Declaration as one of the fundamental values of international relations in the 21st Century.
- In light of globalization and growing inequality, the UN realized that strong international solidarity and cooperation were needed to achieve its Millennium Development Goals.
Human solidarity, what do we really mean by it? one can state it as a sense or notion of togetherness but do we actually believe that, like just look around us, do we really follow this term in our practical lives? Our society revolves around many constructed evils which we still fail to understand unless highlighted or faced. As per the image we all can see this day is founded on the SDGs which aims to alleviate poverty, hunger and illness.
As humans we have the cognitive ability to communicate and make people understand a theory, fact or hypothesis, we need that multidimensional approach to bind people together for elevating these colossal problems such as poverty, hunger or illness.
We need active movements and responsible citizens to who believe in working together for the change, be it in any form like writings, nonviolent protest, movements or awareness drives.
We don’t see the importance or impact of these individual elements in a instance but gradually when people debate and brain strome about just and unjust, things often tend to become sorted and more rational.
Humans since the prehistoric times is a social animal and has elevated their status quo according to their beliefs and ideas that comfort them. Fortunately in the 21st century things are less irrational and there is a robust system to spread awareness and contribute for a cause.
